Collaboration for Sustainability Education in the Lesser Antilles: The Formalink Project
Résumé
This paper highlights elements of an educational experimentation (project Formalink) carried out between
2022 and 2023 and focused on the theme of managing water in a sustainable way. It involved primary school
students (aged 8-11 years) based in Guadeloupe and Saint-Barthelemy. Despite being geographically close, these
two insular areas have notable variations in social, economic, and ecological aspects, also evident in the realm of
water resources and management. Using a contexts-effects-based approach, children investigate their respective
environments and share their findings on the matter through collaborative work with their peers in a virtual
collaboration setting. In this paper, we begin presenting key elements on how teachers from different parts of the Lesser Antilles manage to orchestrate the instructional scenario and the experimentation. We then, by analysing data from interviews with the teachers who participated, identify three aspects (cognitive, affective, and behavioural) of this interregional collaboration that fostered science learning for sustainability during the project
